Dimitar Peshev was born on June 25 1894 in Kyustendil, Bulgaria to a wealthy family. He studied languages in Thessaloniki, Greece, and studied law in Sofia, Bulgaria. In WWI, Peshev fought on the southern front of Bulgaria. After the war, he became a lawyer and eventually a judge. In 1938, Peshev achieved the position of Deputy Speaker in the Bulgarian parliament. He was known for being an honest man and was interested in protecting human rights. However, he was disliked by Prime Minister Bogdan Filov for his honourable views.
