In 1944 when Bulgaria was under Soviet control, Dimitar Peshev was charged with anti-semitism, anti-communism, being a German collaborator, and accepting bribes from the Jewish people to halt their deportation. Luckily, his Jewish friends helped him get out of these false accusations and instead of a death penalty Peshev was only sentenced to 15 years in prison, in which he only seved 1 year before being released. He lived in Bulgaria’s capital city, Sofia until his death on February 20th 1973.
